The group of work and research on women and mental health was established in June 2004 as a working group of the Societat Catalana de Psiquiatria, nowadays Societat Catalana de Psiquiatria i Salut Mental (Catalan Society of Psychiatry and Mental Health). It was created thanks to the effort of a group of practitioners who are interested in women and their mental health. In 2003, the First Conference on Gender and Mental Health was held thanks to the support of the Societat Catalana de Psiquiatria. Later two national congresses and several monographic conferences were held in different years.
The group is currently made up of professionals in fields as psychiatry, psychology, addictions, nursing and gynecology engaged to the promotion of the research and clinic work in woman's mental health. Its objectives are to promote training and research in the area of women's and mental health, to disseminate and create a culture to normalize the topic in knowledge areas such as psychiatry, psychology and nursing. Nowadays, besides the outreach and training (congresses, courses …) it is dedicated to different multicentric studies at a national and international level.
